Anti-corrosion packaging is a systems-level approach to protecting metal goods from rust and corrosion during transit and storage. Unlike VCI packaging alone, a complete anti-corrosion packaging solution combines multiple protection layers matched to the metal type, component geometry, transit route, and required protection duration.
Upackarts designs custom anti-corrosion packaging solutions for manufacturers and exporters in Pune shipping metal components, finished machinery, and engineering goods to domestic and international destinations.
A complete anti-corrosion packaging system typically includes a VCI inner wrap or bag for direct contact with the metal surface, desiccant bags inside the outer packaging to control humidity, a moisture barrier outer layer (aluminium foil laminate or PE barrier film) sealed to prevent atmospheric moisture ingress, and a heat-sealed or mechanically sealed outer closure. For export shipments, the outer packaging is a wooden crate lined with VCI film, with the entire crate sealed with moisture barrier before export.
The system is designed based on the metal type (ferrous or non-ferrous), the longest exposure period (transit time plus storage before use), and the ambient humidity conditions on the transit route.
Any metal component exported to humid climates — South-East Asia, Middle East, Africa — requires anti-corrosion packaging for sea freight transit. Auto components manufactured in Pune and shipped to overseas assembly plants. Spare parts that will be stored in destination country warehouses for 6-12 months before installation. Capital equipment being shipped to project sites where pre-installation storage is inevitable. Long-term storage of critical spare parts in domestic warehouses in coastal or high-humidity locations.
VCI packaging uses volatile corrosion inhibitor material as the sole protection method — the component is placed inside a VCI bag or wrapped in VCI paper. Anti-corrosion packaging is a complete system that may include VCI as one layer but also adds desiccant for humidity control, a sealed moisture barrier, and a protective outer structure. For short transits and standard humidity, VCI alone is sufficient. For sea freight, long storage, or high-humidity destinations, a complete anti-corrosion system is needed.
Share the following information with Upackarts: metal type and finish (painted, machined, galvanised), component dimensions and weight, transit route and estimated transit time, destination climate (arid, tropical, coastal), and required protection duration (months). Upackarts will design a suitable protection system and provide a cost-per-unit quote.
Yes. Upackarts provides anti-corrosion packing for complete machines and capital equipment. The machine is typically wrapped in VCI film, enclosed in a moisture barrier, and packed in a ISPM-15 certified wooden crate with desiccant bags and VCI lining inside the crate.
