BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) packing tape is the standard material for sealing corrugated cartons in manufacturing, distribution, and e-commerce operations. The BOPP film backing provides tensile strength, resistance to tearing, and a surface that can be printed or labelled. The adhesive layer bonds to corrugated board, paper, and most plastic surfaces. Correct carton sealing with the right tape is the last line of defence before the carton goes into the supply chain.
Upackarts supplies BOPP tape in transparent and brown colour variants in 48mm and 72mm widths at 40-50 micron thickness. Both hot-melt and acrylic adhesive formulations are available.
Hot-melt adhesive tape provides high initial tack — it bonds to corrugated quickly on contact. It is the standard choice for high-speed carton sealing in automated and semi-automated dispatch operations. However, hot-melt adhesive loses tack in high humidity conditions, which is a problem for monsoon-season dispatch and for cartons stored in non-air-conditioned warehouses.
Acrylic adhesive tape has lower initial tack than hot-melt but maintains adhesion in high humidity and across a wider temperature range. For monsoon-season dispatch, humid warehouse storage, and export shipments, acrylic adhesive tape is the correct specification.
Custom printed BOPP tape with your company name, logo, or a security message ("Void if opened") serves two purposes. It seals the carton and simultaneously prevents tampering — any attempt to open the carton destroys the tape pattern, making tampering immediately visible. This is increasingly requested by pharmaceutical companies, electronics distributors, and exporters shipping high-value goods.
48mm tape is the standard width for most carton sizes. 72mm tape is used for heavy cartons, large corrugated boxes, or where additional sealing coverage on the flaps is required. For automated tape dispensers, check the dispenser specification for compatible tape width.
A manufacturing or e-commerce dispatch operation sealing 100-200 cartons per day will typically consume 2-4 rolls of 48mm tape per day, or approximately 1-2 boxes per week. Upackarts recommends ordering on a monthly scheduled basis to avoid the higher cost of emergency buying when stock runs out mid-week.
Yes. Custom printed tape is available with MOQ 5 boxes (180 rolls). Lead time is 10-14 days. Design artwork should be provided in vector format.
